As I would consider myself a Graphic Artist more than any other discipline, my strongest interests lie in areas which are representative but are concerned often with imaginary ideas, concepts and themes.
My strongest areas of interest lie in Graphic fiction (Comics and Graphic novels), horror as a genre in most mediums and themes of decay and dystopia, counter and sub culture and lowbrow and underground movements in art.
I particularly like pastiche work which involves sardonicism, this is likely to arise from an interest in propaganda imagery under the counter culture umbrella (war time posters for example.)
For examples of particular themes I would enjoy exploring, the underground / counter comic movement in the American 1960’s and how it’s influence shaped future comic attitudes, as well as the low brow movement of the time and it’s influence on pop culture.
The fear arising from the 1950’s American pre-code comics and what was happening in Britain at this time with similar publications, how political thinking and the cold war influenced things.
The European comics revolution and how different perspectives and attitudes shaped themes on the continent.
Far Eastern cultural differences in comics narrative and how traditional folklores feed into stories.
How we arrived at where we are today with trends, themes, techniques and the future.
